GT was founded in 1973 by Gary Turner, hence the name GT. Gary designed one of the first BMX race bikes after hi s son found the current BMX bikes too heavy to race. In 1974 Gary teamed up with Richard Long and the company started selling frames and sponsoring riders. In 1987 with the BMX scene fading GT moved in to mountain bikes which were described as “criminally fast” and then banned by the UCI, this didn’t stop GT who remain on the cutting edge of innovation and design.
